High Performance
2-8 Axis PC Bus
Motion Controller
P rogrammable Functions
• 2 to 8 axis servo/vector/stepper
control.
• Fast 32 bit floating point DSP delivers
250µS update time for 4 servos.
• ISA PC bus plug-in card.
• CE compliant design.
• Dual Port RAM interface to PC.
• Digital and analog I/O.
• MINT™ or “C” programming.
• CANbus port for distributed I/O and
operator interface.
• Multi-axis interpolation across eight
axes, mixed vector/servo/stepper.
• Gearing, CAMs, flying shears and
much more.
• 512k RAM for program and data
storage.
• 25µS position capture input.
• Feed rates, and feedrate override can
be associated with interpolated moves
when used in high speed contouring.
• High speed position latch for precise
product registration.
NextMove PC is programmed in Baldor’s easy to use MINT language, or in “C”. Both the MINT programming
language and C function libraries support a wide range of motion and control functions as outlined below.
Positional Moves
Absolute & Relative moves allow high speed point to
point motion on one or all axes.
Speed, Acceleration & Deceleration can be defined
for each move type.
Trapezoidal profiled moves provide the fastest point
to point move but exert the maximum jerk and shock
on a system.
S-ramp profiled moves provide a more smooth
velocity profile that prolongs the life of machine
mechanics.
Interpolated Moves
Linear Interpolation across any eight axes, (mixed
vector/servo/stepper) allows positional moves to be
defined in terms of a linear vectors. Absolute and
relative vectored moves are supported.
Circular Interpolation across any 4 pairs of axes
simultaneously (mixed vector/servo/stepper) allows a
complete or partial arc to be defined. Absolute and
relative circular moves are supported.
Splining allows a stream of moves, defined in terms
of position, velocity and time to be blended together
into a continuous and smooth motion. This is used in
applications where path speed and continuous veloci-
ty are important.
Contouring allows a string of linear and circular
interpolated moves to be blended together into a
continuous complex path of motion.
Master/Follower
Electronic Cam replaces the traditional mechanical
cam with a servo motor and software programmable
cam profile. NextMove PC supports one cam profile
for each of the eight axes (vector/servo or stepper).
Any axis may be defined as a Master input to a cam
and multiple master/cam relationships are supported.
Electronic Gearbox & Clutch enable two motor
shafts to be linked together in precise synchronization
with a software programmable gear ratio. NextMove
PC allows any axis to be geared to any master. Any
axis may be defined as the master. Multiple
master/gear relationships are supported
Flying Shear allows operations to be performed at
regular intervals on a continuously moving web.
Acceleration, synchronization and return stroke are
linked by software to the movement of the product.
PC Communications
Dual Port RAM is used to communicate program,
data and control commands between the PC and
NextMove card. This provides a very high speed and
efficient method of transferring information without
over burdening the PC and NextMove processors.
